What the loan can pay for

The NSW Government’s Home Energy Saver loan program covers a set list of approved energy saving upgrades. These are the ones Clean Power Australia installs:

  • Close-up of solar panels with sunlight glinting off one edge
    Rooftop solar

A new system, or an expansion of an existing one.

  • A Sigenergy battery and inverter in a garage beside bollards
    A home battery

The program requires a battery on the Clean Energy Council approved list, installed at a home that has or is getting solar.

  • An EV charger on a brick wall with a car in the driveway beyond
A Level 2 electric vehicle charger

    Installed by a licensed electrician.

  • An electrician working inside an open meter box
    A switchboard upgrade

Where one is needed to safely support the solar, battery or charger.

Who may be eligible

Who may be eligible

You may be eligible for a Home Energy Saver loan if:

  • the home is in New South Wales
  • you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • your combined taxable household income is up to $210,000 a year
  • you own the property, as an owner-occupier or a landlord
  • the upgrade is on the approved list and meets the program’s product requirements

Using the loan with the federal battery rebate

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount comes off the battery price first, applied on our quote. The Home Energy Saver loan can then cover the remaining amount, up to $15,000.

Our quote shows each of these as a separate line, so you can see exactly what you are borrowing.

What it costs you upfront

No upfront cost on finance. Deposit may apply.

The loan has no establishment fee and no account-keeping fees, and the loan amount is paid to us after installation. Depending on your system, we may ask for a deposit on the equipment before the installation date.

How it works with Clean Power Australia

  1. We quote your system

An itemised quote showing the product, the installation, the federal battery rebate, and the amount left for the loan. Under the program’s rules, other government incentives are applied before the loan.

  2. You apply with Brighte

We send you a referral link from Brighte with your quote details already filled in. You confirm your eligibility, provide proof of ownership and income, and complete Brighte’s assessment. Brighte tells you the outcome.

  3. We install

Once you have accepted your loan agreement with Brighte and your installation agreement with us, our local SAA accredited installers fit the system, test it, and show you how it works.

  4. Brighte settles and repayments begin

Brighte confirms with you that the installation is complete and working, pays us on your behalf, and your repayments start under your loan agreement.

Questions about the Home Energy Saver loan

Is it a grant or a loan?

A loan. You repay the amount you borrow, with no interest and no fees on the loan, over a term of up to 10 years. The NSW Government funds the loan and Brighte delivers it.

Can I use it with the federal battery rebate?

Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount is applied to your quote first, and the loan can cover the remaining cost of the eligible upgrade, up to $15,000.

Is there a discount as well as the loan?

The NSW Government has said a Home Energy Saver discount of up to $4,000 will open later for households with an income of up to $80,000 a year, or with an eligible concession card. If you may qualify, the NSW Government recommends applying for the discount first and using the loan for the balance. You can sign up for updates at energy.nsw.gov.au/home-energy-saver.

Which batteries qualify?

Batteries on the Clean Energy Council approved list with more than 5 kWh of usable capacity, a warranty of at least 10 years, installed by an SAA accredited installer at a property with solar. The Sigenergy and Hinen systems we install meet these requirements.

I am a landlord. Can I use the loan for a rental property?

Yes, landlords are eligible. You will need to confirm that your tenant has consented to the upgrade.

How long does Brighte take?

Brighte assesses each application, including responsible lending requirements, and tells you the outcome. We cannot speed that up and we do not know the result in advance.

Do I need a home energy rating?

No. A NatHERS home assessment and certificate is optional as part of the loan application process.

Can I get a loan for solar only, without a battery?

Yes. Rooftop solar is an approved upgrade in its own right.

Does the loan cover the switchboard?

Where a switchboard upgrade is needed to safely support your solar, battery or EV charger, it is an approved upgrade and can be included.

About this program

Home Energy Saver loans are funded by the NSW Government and delivered by Brighte.

We are a NETCC Approved Seller and every installation is carried out by SAA accredited installers.

The program also covers upgrades we do not install, such as heat pump hot water, reverse-cycle air conditioning and insulation. The full list is on the NSW Government’s Home Energy Saver page at energy.nsw.gov.au/home-energy-saver.

The loan applies to the upgrade and its installation only. If your home needs other work first, we quote it separately so it is clear what the loan covers.

The loan is not available if the property has already received $15,000 of upgrades under the program, or if it is social or community housing, or used for short-stay rental accommodation. Strata owners need consent from their owners corporation, and landlords need to confirm their tenant has consented to the upgrade.

Check Brighte’s website for full eligibility criteria: brighte.com.au/nsw

Important information

  1. Eligibility criteria and approved upgrade requirements apply. Loans are subject to Brighte assessment.
  2. Estimated savings are indicative only and vary depending on household circumstances, energy use and installation.
  3. Any deposit on the equipment is stated on your quote, and the total of any deposit plus the loan will not exceed the quoted cost of supplying and installing your upgrade.
