Tesla Powerwall 3 home battery
A 13.5 kWh battery and a built-in solar inverter in one unit. Installed across NSW, QLD, the ACT and SA by our own certified team, with the federal battery rebate applied on your quote.
The product
Tesla Powerwall 3
Powerwall 3 puts a 13.5 kWh battery and a solar inverter in one wall or floor mounted unit. It takes up to 20 kW of solar panels directly, and capacity grows in 13.5 kWh steps with Powerwall 3 Expansion units.

- Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells
- Solar inverter built in, so a new solar and battery install needs one less box on the wall
- Whole-home backup with the Tesla Backup Gateway 2
- Monitored and controlled in the Tesla app
Why people choose Powerwall 3
It is one of the best known home batteries in the country, and for good reason.
-
A solar inverter built in
Up to 20 kW of panels across three MPPTs, at 97.5% solar to home efficiency on Tesla’s figures. For a new solar and battery install, that is one fewer box to buy and mount.
-
Strong starting power
Rated for 185 locked rotor amps, which helps in an outage with motors that surge as they start, such as air conditioners and pool pumps.
-
An app people like
The Tesla app is one of the easiest to live with, with clear energy flow and simple backup reserve settings.
-
A household name
Tesla has a large Australian installer network, so parts and support are well established.
Good to know before you buy
The practical details that shape how a Powerwall 3 system is designed for your home.
-
Capacity comes in 13.5 kWh steps
One Powerwall 3 stores 13.5 kWh, and each Expansion unit adds another 13.5 kWh, for 27, 40.5 or 54 kWh in total. We size it against your evening usage so you are not paying for capacity you will not use.
-
Charging with Expansion units
With Expansion units fitted, Tesla currently limits continuous charging to 5 kW, with a firmware update listed to lift it to 8 kW. Worth factoring in for short winter days.
-
Warranty
Ten years, with 70% of capacity retained at year ten. Tesla says it may not honour the full term if the unit stays offline for an extended period, though it will honour at least four years, so a reliable internet connection matters.
-
Single phase
Powerwall 3 is a single-phase unit. On a three-phase home we will explain how it would be connected and what it would back up.
-
Where it goes
At 130 kg and 1105 mm tall it needs a solid wall or a floor mount, ideally out of the afternoon sun: Tesla notes performance may be derated above 40°C.
-
Backup
Whole-home backup needs the Tesla Backup Gateway 2 wired into your switchboard. We include it in the design if you want the house to keep running in an outage.

What the federal rebate is worth on a Powerwall 3
The Cheaper Home Batteries discount is calculated on usable capacity and comes straight off our quote. These figures use the May to December 2026 rate of 6.8 certificates per kWh, at a certificate value of $37 to $40. Your quote shows the exact amount for your installation date.
One Powerwall 3, 13.5 kWh usable
91 certificates, roughly $3,400 to $3,600 off. The whole battery sits inside the first 14 kWh band, which attracts the full rate.
Powerwall 3 plus one Expansion, 27 kWh usable
148 certificates, roughly $5,500 to $5,900 off. Capacity above 14 kWh earns 60% of the rate.
From 1 January 2027
The rate drops to 5.7 certificates per kWh, about 16% less. It is set by your installation date, not your order date. How the federal battery rebate works.

Tesla Powerwall 3 questions
Are you a Tesla Certified Installer?
Yes. We supply, install and commission Powerwall 3 across NSW, QLD, the ACT and South Australia, and register it with Tesla for the warranty.
How much does a Powerwall 3 cost installed?
It depends on whether you are adding solar at the same time, whether you want the Backup Gateway 2 for whole-home backup, any switchboard work, and how many Expansion units you add. The federal rebate takes roughly $3,400 to $3,600 off a single Powerwall 3. We quote the full system with the rebate already applied.
Is Powerwall 3 eligible for the federal battery rebate?
Yes, when it is installed by an SAA accredited installer. We apply the discount on your quote and handle the certificate paperwork.
What warranty does Powerwall 3 have?
Ten years from installation, with at least 70% of capacity retained at year ten for solar self-consumption, time-based control and backup. Tesla may not honour the full ten years if the unit is kept offline for long periods, so a reliable internet connection matters.
Will Powerwall 3 run my home in a blackout?
With a Tesla Backup Gateway 2, yes. The gateway detects the outage, disconnects from the grid and lets Powerwall 3 run the house or chosen circuits. Without it, the battery shuts down with the grid for safety.
Can I add more capacity later?
Yes, up to three Powerwall 3 Expansion units per Powerwall 3, taking one system to 54 kWh. The federal rebate can only be claimed once per property, so it pays to size the system properly the first time.
Does Powerwall 3 work on a three-phase home?
Powerwall 3 is a single-phase unit, so what it can back up on a three-phase home depends on how it is connected. We will explain the options for your switchboard when we quote.
Powerwall 3 or Sigenergy?
Powerwall 3 if you want a single, well known unit with a built-in solar inverter. Sigenergy if you want to size capacity in smaller steps, need three-phase, or want backup and EV charging from the same stack. Sigenergy SigenStor.
Powerwall 3 or Hinen?
Similar usable capacity per unit. Hinen is usually the lower-priced option and carries a twelve year warranty against Tesla’s ten. Hinen B14400.
